Thoughts

Sunday Novemeber 27th, 2011

A middle-schooler (that I had just met) asked me yesterday what my riding morality was.

"Morality?" I asked.

"Well, you know, about horses."

Morality? It was a sincere question from an sincere girl. I guessed she meant philosophy.

"Well, I have had extensive training and competition in eventing, dressage, hunters, jumpers. and natural horsemanship, but I guess the predominate thing I have learned is  that we need to adjust our style of riding to suit the horse, not the other way around."

The words had not been out of my mouth more than 5 minutes when that same girl, under another's instruction was being run away with on a horse...

More, later...

At the horse show this past weekend there was much to see. There were some very nice horses and ponies at the RMI Jubilee at Wills Park in Alpharetta. One thing that has always been difficult to watch is when a horse and rider are mismatched and the results can be quite discouraging to the rider. My heart always goes out to those riders who may be thinking that it is all their fault - when it may not be. I love improving and even fixing those mismatches when possible. I like to see happy faces at the in-gate!
